Shabbos is like the Menorah and the custom to light 7 Shabbos candles.
Just as the middle candle of the menorah is the most unique, the ner maravi (according to one opinion) and has three branches on either side, so too, it's brought in the gemara Shabbos, that the three days before Shabbos are called "kamei Shabta" קמי שבתא while the three days after Shabbos are called "basar Shabta" בתר שבתא. From the Shalah hakadosh in the name of the Chayit.
Indeed I've seen a custom of medakdekim (people careful in the mitzvos) to light seven Shabbos candles, corresponding to the menorah of the beis hamikdosh and the "light of the 7 days" אור שבעת הימים
