There are three explanations for the malachim giving "reshus" ze la ze.

First, each on receives from his friend, as a cause gives to its effect. So the lower level gets elevated and included in the higher level, to its source. This is not possible without permission, so the first meaning of "reshus" here means permission. That the higher gives permission to the lower to enter its state.

We can also translate "reshus" here as "place," as in, "reshus hayachid," private property. Namely, giving a "space" for the other to be elevated.

Finally, "reshus" can mean rulership, a language of "srara." Like the statement (in Pirkei Avos) "Al tisvda la'reshus," "don't get to friendly with those in power." That is , the Shechina is the supernal "reshus," the supernal "ruler" and the malachim give and draw down one to the other in order to be united in its light.
