If, according to Chassidus, desiring meat was really a spiritual thing, why were the divine massacre?

While I haven't seen an answer to that in Chassidus yet, here are two thoughts that come to mind from Tiferes Yehonasan - יהונתן אייבשיץ (who also brings the idea of the Slav being a spiritual level, since the idea is from the Arizal.)

The first is that, in terms of knowledge of Torah, the מן was a כלל, that all the flavors were as one. The attraction of meat was that it could give them the פרט, detailed knowledge. Like עד לא אכילנא בשרא דטורא.

So you could say the "death" is like a concept of אדם כי ימות באוהל and בין שיניהם is a concept of שינון and study. Although he doesn't say it in those words.
