Bigsan and Seresh got angry.

Why?

Rebi Levi said, that when Esther became queen she asked Achashverosh, "why don't you do like the previous kings and place a righteous person as a guard to your gates? Nevuchadnetzer, placed Daniel at his gate!" He asked,  "Do you know a righteous Jew for this?" She said, "There is here Mordochai who is righteous."

Once the king replaced Bigsan and Teresh with Mordochai as guards, the got angry. They said, "lets quietly kill the king and people will say this only happened because we got rid of Bigsan and Seresh as guards and now that there is a Jew, he was murdered!"

That's when they didn't realize that Mordochai understood their language.

The snake was found.

Some say Bigsan and Seresh heard that their plot to kill Achashverosh was found out and told to the king. They then removed the poisonous snake, so they wouldn't get caught. Miraculously, the snake was still found there. This is why it says that "the matter was investigated and it was found." You only say "it was found" (vayimatzeh) about something that was lost at first, then found. Alternatively, they tried to strangle him and they "were found."

In Breishis Raba it says that Bigsan and Seresh hid a sword in the shoe to commit the murder. A "sayif." It seems to me that is why they are called "shomrei hasaf" (since they wear "guarding" the sword they wear hiding.)
